Punk Rock Quotes

Some quotes from The World Wide Punk Page...

Today's punk is stale. To us, punk is about shock value. Whether it was the Buzzcocks releasing "Orgasm Addict" and "Oh Shit" as singles, the Ramones with "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" or the infamous Sex Pistols cussing for the first time on the BBC, punk was always meant to be shocking. Something that made people gasp. Something that made people embarrassed of their dumb, apathetic, ignorant consumerist lives. Something that made them look, and made them look twice, panic. Something that wasn't just, as Crass said, a "token tantrum." Something that was, like Johnny Rotton said, "sheer, brazen honesty." And perhaps noone was listening, and perhaps the problem is that noone really listens anymore, but it wasn't just singing to your friends about not selling out at a show with some beer in your belly, it was yelling, screaming at the world, kicking at the wall, living, desperate energy, living. Something completely new and exciting and...

Today the punk scene is just made up of uniform-grabbing, watered-down kids who completely copy each other and who lust over those legends about having a fuck-off attitude. It is no longer an insult to be a punk, in fact, it's cool. The glossy, punkrock image you (and face it, american pop culture) drool over... The contests about who is the most "real"... The exclusive "clubs" where only "real" punkrockers belong (and where only a select audience hears whatever message is to be had). The vows never to sell out... They make you feel pretty good about yourself, don't they. They make you feel like you really raised a middle finger at society. Well, it seems like you bought into it to us.

Punk once stood for freedom, not violence, greed and hate. Punk's got nothing to do with what you're trying to create. Anarchy, violence, chaos? You mindless fucking jerks. Can't you see you're talking about the way the system works? ... PUNK IS DEAD you wankers, cos you killed it through and through. In your violent world of chaos, what you gonna do?

My personal favorite: Before we sell out, we'll get the hell out - Lint (Operation Ivy)

Mine: My mom calls it noise, I call it punk rock.

"Throw me around, Put me on the mosh pit, pass me around, you know, crank it up fuckers!" -The Goat (Adam Sandler)

Some of my thoughts...

Many people say that punk is dead, but I disagree and heres why: I'll admit, old punk rock such as The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kenneyd's, The Clash, Husker Du, and MANY others kick a lot of ass, but so does some of the new stuff. Punk was cool back then and many people still listen to (I am one of them) but you gotta realize that those are the dead bands. If you think about it punk rock is anything BUT dead, its at it peak. Try out some new bands such as NOFX (not too new but kicks ass) Guttermouth, AFI, Op Ivy/Rancid, Pennywise and other Nitro/Fat/Epitaph bands. You never know, you just might like them. -=8-)
